Detail: Japanese logistics company seeks an Ocean Import Operation Staff-Torrance, California

JOB SUMMARY:

 Process international import shipments via airlines and steamships by coordinating the
movement of international Import shipments and preparing documentation of import
freight.
 Work with Carriers, Truckers, Importers, Brokers and Rail yards.
 Track, trace and update customer related issues to external and internal clients.
 Have a customer service oriented skill set and professional attitude.
 Be responsible for executing all functions relating to the import process.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Answer calls, respond to issues quickly and accurately and route them to correct
individuals.
2. Communicate with carriers, overseas agents, and customers via telephone and email.
3. Input duty amounts in Cargowise for Brokerage files.
4. Input pierpass amounts in Cargowise for Brokerage files.
5. Input freight forwarders or air / ocean freight rates in Cargowise for Brokerage files
6. Make check requests for #4 and send them out by messenger or FEDEX to be
overnighted to steamship lines, etc.
7. Assembling of files which involve copying if needed and preparing for billing
8. Once files billed by Brokerage agent, staple the billing to the correct packet
9. Prepare the billed packet and put in envelope and give to Accounting for mailing
10. Receive visitors, messenger, trucking company runners at front lobby window
11. Assist in filing of ISFs and monitor ISFs
12. Assist in inputting and / or verifying the information for surety companies’ billings.
Once verified in Citrix, send bills to Accounting for prompt payment
13. Assist with daily statements, preparing documents for CBP payments and documents
requested by CBP, disseminating info to Accounting for ACH payments
14. Track and Trace delivery orders and update P.O.D.’s regularly and review P.O.D.
Exception report twice per week.
15. Pay Pierpass fees in TMF website.
16. Assist in inputting ISO.
17. Visit CBP, other government agency offices, airlines, trucking companies, freight
forwarders, CFS, etc. IF needed
18. Assist in distribution of any Import cargo – prepare UPS / FedEx labels, attach them to
cargo and make sure they are promptly picked up from the warehouse
19. Filing, making boxes for files, moving them to warehouse once shelves are full in the
office
20. Check arrival information of the ISFs and open files if needed for Brokerage / Ocean BB
agents
21. Track inbound shipments and provide shipment status and updates to customers.
22. Contact co-loaders and steamship lines for arrival information
23. Provide arrival info to customers and brokers prior to shipment arrival/availability
24. Collect OBL and charges if necessary from importers / brokers
25. Input those info for proper release and give those checks promptly to Accounting
26. Proactively notify customers of ANY delays regarding arrival or delivery of their
cargo including additional billing and notification as required.
27. Review Standard Operating Procedures to insure compliance.
28. Entry opening within 24 hours of receipt and Entry Writer Support
29. Create client billing and handle accounting processes accurately in timely manner
30. Increase profit – Cargo insurance, “best in class service”, profit markup etc.
31. Monitor and develop KPI’s
32. Support to issue check if account payable person or Customer Service person is absent
33. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Basic English reading, writing and arithmetic skills required. Minimum high school
diploma or equivalent.
2. Ability to organize, prepare and assemble documents containing data from various
sources.
3. Knowledge of office processes, procedures, and technology.
4. Knowledge of US Customs Tariff, Fish & Wildlife Service, FDA and USDA filing
requirements.
5. Knowledge of Air and Ocean import freight release.
6. Computer literate for ABI.
7. Working experience with an International Freight Forwarder is preferred.
8. To demonstrate the ability to increase and secure new freight related business.
9. Preferable 2 years in Customer Service or Operations, in International Transportation
business
10. Familiarity with local marketplace and trends.
11. Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
12. Aggressive individual to achieve revenue and sales goals

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
Work may require time in the warehouse and/or outdoors.
